Town Government
The Falmouth Town Council, at its meeting on June 24, adopted the Fiscal Year 2027 Tax Increment Financing fund budget of $5,951,208. Following this, the council also approved the Fiscal Year 2027 Tax Increment Financing expenditure budget of $5,381,860 (FY27 TIF Budget Resolution). Town Manager Sarah Jenkins highlighted that these allocations are vital for continued investment in the Route 1 commercial district and other strategic development areas, supporting the town's economic growth and infrastructure needs. Finance Director Paul Peterson presented the detailed financial overview, noting the budgets reflect a prudent approach to leveraging TIF funds.
In a move to shape the character of local development, the council gave initial approval to an amendment that would prohibit new self-storage facilities in the Mixed Use Cluster District. This regulatory action, which followed a recommendation from the Planning Board (Ordinance Amendment Proposal 2026-06), aims to encourage more diverse and community-oriented businesses and housing options within the district, aligning with Falmouth’s long-range planning goals. A final vote on the amendment is anticipated at a future council meeting.
Further demonstrating its commitment to infrastructure, the Town Council accepted a subsurface drainage easement on private property located at 18 Mill Creek Road. This easement grants the town the necessary rights to install and maintain a stormwater system, crucial for managing runoff and mitigating potential flooding in the area (Drainage Easement Agreement, June 2026). Schools

Additionally, a shoplifting incident was reported at a retail establishment in the Falmouth Shopping Center on June 23, and an investigation is ongoing with potential security camera footage under review.
Fire & EMS
Falmouth Fire-EMS responded to 42 calls for service during the past week, comprising 30 medical emergencies and 12 fire-related incidents. On Saturday, June 22, at around 11:00 a.m., crews were dispatched to a brush fire reported near the Presumpscot River Trail. Firefighters quickly contained the blaze, preventing its spread into nearby wooded areas, with mutual aid assistance provided by the Cumberland Fire Department. Paramedics also responded to a serious medical emergency on Monday, June 24, at a residence on Blackstrap Road, transporting a patient to Maine Medical Center for further care.
