Town Government
Millinocket’s Town Council convened for its regular bi-weekly meeting on Thursday, June 12, with a focus on continuing the town’s economic revitalization efforts through outdoor recreation and infrastructure development. The council reviewed its tentative agenda, making minor adjustments before approving the final version for public record (6 11 2026 Tentative Agenda – Adjustments, 6 11 2026 Tentative Agenda Regular Council).
Key discussions centered on an application for a state grant, potentially totaling $150,000, to expand and improve the local ATV and snowmobile trail network. Town Manager Sarah Chen presented the proposal, highlighting its potential to draw more visitors to the Katahdin region. Council Chair Robert Miller emphasized the importance of these investments for local businesses.
In other news, KATAHDIN COMMUNICATIONS, INC. filed details for a new tower build to support a WSYY FM Studio in Millinocket. While not directly on the council’s agenda this week, the project, requiring FAA approval, is a signal of ongoing infrastructure development in the area, particularly for communications services vital for the town’s remote worker attraction initiatives. The council also briefly discussed the progress of the town’s broadband expansion project, noting that Phase 2, focusing on the Golden Road corridor, is on schedule for a fall completion.
Schools
The Millinocket School Board did not hold a public meeting this past week. However, school administration announced plans for the annual summer reading program, encouraging students to visit the Millinocket Memorial Library throughout July and August. The program aims to maintain literacy skills during the break, with incentives for participation. Facilities staff continued routine maintenance and cleaning at Millinocket Elementary School and Stearns High School in preparation for the upcoming academic year.
