Town Government

Millinocket’s Town Council convened Tuesday evening, March 24, for its regular bi-weekly meeting, addressing ongoing community development projects and future fiscal planning. Town Manager Sarah Chen presented an update on the progress of several Community Development Block Grant initiatives, noting that renovation work on properties at 61, 122, and 204 Penobscot Avenue, for which bid packages were issued last year (TOWN OF MILLI CDBG BID PACKAGE 61 PENOBSCOT, TOWN OF MILLI CDBG BID PACKAGE 122 PENOBSCOT, TOWN OF MILLI CDBG BID PACKAGE 204 PENOBSCOT), is nearing completion. These projects aim to revitalize residential housing stock in the downtown core, aligning with the town's broader economic diversification strategy focused on outdoor recreation and remote worker attraction.

Discussions also touched upon the preliminary framework for the Fiscal Year 2027 municipal budget, with department heads expected to submit initial proposals by mid-April. Council Chair Mark Johnson emphasized the need for continued fiscal prudence while supporting key investments in infrastructure and community services. The council reviewed the current status of the town’s wastewater infrastructure, following up on the comprehensive plan outlined in the 2025 Millinocket Wastewater flier final document, and confirmed that upgrades are proceeding on schedule.

The Age Friendly Millinocket committee held its monthly meeting on March 25, reviewing progress on accessibility initiatives and senior programming. Minutes from their January 14, 2025, and March 11, 2025, meetings (Age Friendly Millinocket Minutes January 14 2025 Final, Age Friendly Millinocket Minutes March 11 2025) were referenced, highlighting the committee's sustained efforts in creating a more inclusive community. The committee is preparing for a May meeting (Age Friendly Millinocket Agenda May 13. 2025) to finalize plans for a summer intergenerational event. Additionally, the Code Enforcement Office provided its latest update (CODE ENFORCEMENT UPDATE 4/14/2025), detailing ongoing efforts to address property maintenance and safety standards across town.
