City Government
The Geneva City Council met Friday, June 14, following a productive Committee of the Whole session earlier in the week. The Plan Commission convened on Tuesday, June 11, to discuss several development proposals. A Honda Civic driven by Maria Rodriguez, 45, of Geneva, and a Ford F-150 driven by David Chen, 32, of Batavia, collided at approximately 3:15 p.m. No serious injuries were reported, and Ms. Rodriguez received a citation for failure to yield. On Saturday, June 15, police investigated a reported theft from a vehicle parked in the 100 block of South Third Street. A backpack containing electronics was taken from an unlocked car sometime overnight. On Sunday, June 16, officers addressed a noise complaint originating from a residence in the 700 block of Williamsburg Avenue, resulting in a verbal warning for excessive music volume.
Fire & EMS
The Geneva Fire Department and EMS responded to 45 calls for service during the week, including 30 emergency medical incidents, 8 fire alarms, and 2 hazardous materials investigations.
On Thursday, June 13, firefighters extinguished a small brush fire in the natural area near Peck Farm Park, which was quickly contained and caused no structural damage. On Saturday, June 15, Geneva EMS paramedics responded to a medical emergency on a pleasure boat on the Fox River, transporting a 62-year-old male experiencing chest pains to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital. The department also provided mutual aid to the Batavia Fire Department for a structure fire on Main Street on Sunday, June 16.
